Season 2, Episode 6. When one moves abroad, a lot gets left behind. Most importantly: people. Managing relationships with loved ones back home can be one of the hardest parts of the expat life. So today, two expats with totally different experiences sit down to chat about how they’ve managed.
Nicole grew up with strong roots, surrounded by friends and family that continue to be relevant to her life today. Summer, on the other hand, doesn’t have a strong “home base,” and her friends and family are spread out from South Carolina to Alaska.
When an ocean and a few thousand miles get thrown into both of those situations, what happens? How does one manage keeping in touch? Who visits whom? And how often? And where? Nicole & Summer exchange their perspectives on the pros and cons of their familial and friendship relationships throughout their time as Americans abroad.
